CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

Session: Recent Advances in Carbonate Diagenesis: Oral and Poster

Colleagues:

Please consider submitting an abstract for the 2008 AAPG-SEPM annual meeting in the session "Recent Advances in Carbonate Diagenesis".

Most of us would agree that understanding carbonate diagenetic processes and products is a fundamental challenge in predicting the distribution and characteristics of carbonate reservoir rocks. With recent research there is progress, but still an indication of great complexity, pointing us in new directions as we attempt to predict porosity distribution with accuracy.
There is much to learn from what the rock record, observations on extant systems, modeling, and experiments can teach us. Variables governing diagenetic reactions in meteoric and mixed systems is still open to debate; seawater chemistry can no longer be treated as a constant; microbial processes may dominate many reactions; and we are learning more and more about the importance of reflux, fluid flow in the deep subsurface, and hydrothermal processes. These are just a few of the important ideas advancing recent research. With this session, we hope to capture presentations dealing with new findings, especially those that challenge conventional views of carbonate diagenesis. Although the theme deals with reservoir characterization, submissions need not deal with reservoirs directly and may include studies of extant systems, modeling, experiments, or non-reservoir rocks. We look forward to seeing you in San Antonio.

Please submit abstracts through the AAPG website. The abstract deadline is September 27, 2007.
